DAY TRIP TO NINH BINH

Leave Hanoi and take the expressway for Ninh Binh, the land characterized by the beauty of karst hills, submerged grasslands. At Trang An tourist complex, embark a hand paddle boat to explore the nature of the UNESCO protected area. The boat trip goes through magnificent waterways featuring a beautiful landscape with a series of karst tunnels and lagoons.

Getting off the boat to continue the exploration on land. Visit the temples of King Dinh Tien Hoang and King Le Dai Hanh located on the site of their capital named Hoa Lu in the 10th century. The temples were constructed much later in the Le Dynasty around the 15th century but in the Nhat Tru Pagoda nearby you can find a sutra pillar made of stone which dates back to the time of the kings.

Lunch with local specialty, goat dishes, at a local restaurant. Continue the tour with a short scenic drive towar Bich Dong pagoda. In a beautiful rural setting the pagoda was built into a karst hill, the Main Shrine located at the base but the Middle and the Upper shrines were erected in small grottoes up the karst rock. The top terrace in front of the Upper shrine offers a nice view over the surrounding paddy fields. Around mid afternoon, drive back to Hanoi by the expressway.
